Robinson of NJSEA Elected to NTRA Board

Dennis Robinson, president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, has been elected to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association board of directors as the Eastern region racetrack representative.

In addition, Hollywood Park president Jack Liebau was re-elected to the NTRA board as its Western region independent racetrack representative. The NTRA board met Sept. 24 in Lexington.

Robinson, instrumental in this year’s “Elite Summer Meet” at Monmouth Park, replaces Delaware Park chief operating officer Bill Fasy, who stepped down earlier this year.

“We are very pleased to have Dennis join the NTRA board of directors,” NTRA president and CEO Alex Waldrop said in a statement. “His knowledge and his respect throughout the industry will be strong assets to the board. And we are equally pleased that we will continue to benefit from the leadership of Jack Liebau in the years ahead.”

Magna Entertainment Corp., which morphed into MI Developments after bankruptcy, remains a member of the NTRA but hasn’t been represented on the board since former Santa Anita Park president Ron Charles left earlier this year. MID had committed to the NTRA for the first half of 2010 and won't participate in NTRA programs until its membership for the second half of the year is renewed.

MID, the New York Racing Association, and Keeneland have committed NTRA board seats on the racetrack side. Churchill Downs Inc. had one as well but defected from the organization earlier this year.
