WinStar Farm, which won the 2010 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) with Super Saver, will display itsDerby trophy at Turfway Park from 1 to 3 p.m. EDT Oct. 2 as part of an interactive fan appreciation day.
Elliott Walden, vice president and racing manager of WinStar Farm, offered the trophy for display after hearing about the day planned by Turfway’s horsemen and track management.
“We at WinStar feel privileged to have won the Derby with a great horse like Super Saver, and we want to give racing fans in Northern Kentucky a chance to experience the feeling to stand next to the winner’s trophy,” WinStar co-owner Bill Casner said in a statement. “Fans are the lifeblood of our industry.”
“We are excited for our fans to see the iconic Derby trophy and very much appreciate WinStar’s generosity in making the offer,” Turfway president Bob Elliston said. “Having the trophy here fits perfectly with our intention to thank our fans for their support and encourage our neighbors to learn about Kentucky’s priceless racing heritage.”
The day will offer fans a chance to meet trainers and jockeys, sit in on simple handicapping lessons, see how racehorses are cared for, and handle equipment worn by horses and jockeys during races.
