Carolyn and Karen Scisney’s homebred Maybesomaybenot, winner of the Sanford (gr. II) at Saratoga in July, headlines a field of 11 in the $400,000 Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity (gr. I) for 2-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on the Polytrack.
The Breeders’ Futurity, which serves as a “Win and You’re In” race for the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs, is the fourth of five graded races on the Oct. 9 Keeneland card. Post time is set for 5:13 p.m. EDT.
Trained by Mike Maker, Maybesomaybenot broke his maiden in his second attempt this summer at Churchill Downs before winning the Sanford by 1 1/2 lengths. In his most recent start, Maybesomaybenot finished fourth in the Sept. 4 Sapling (gr. III) at Monmouth Park. Rajiv Maragh has the mount on Maybesomaybenot, who will break from post 8. The gelding is by Sunday Break, out of the Olympio mare Majestic Mommy.
Maker will also saddle Typhoon Slew, a maiden winner at Ellis Park by nearly 11 lengths on the turf in July before finishing third last out in the Sept. 3 With Anticipation (gr. IIIT) at Saratoga.
Also in the competitive field are two other graded stakes winners, Dogwood Stable’s Lou Brissie and Gary and Mary West’s Major Gain.
Trained by Neil Howard, Lou Brissie will be making his sixth start of the season. He won his first start in April at Keeneland before taking the Kentucky Juvenile (gr. III) at Churchill Downs. The Limehouse colt is winless in his last three, including a failed 10th-pace effort in the With Anticipation. Robby Albarado will be aboard.
Major Gain broke his maiden at second asking in the Sept. Arlington-Washington Futurity (gr. III) in his most recent start for trainer Wayne Catalano. The homebred son of More Than Ready had a sharp five-furlong work at Keeneland Oct. 2, clocking :59 2/5 for the distance. Junior Alvarado retains the mount on Major Gain, who will break from post 10.
Todd Pletcher will send out Tom Walters’ Santiva, a maiden who comes to him from the barn of Ken McPeek after two defeats to begin his career. The defeat on Aug. 21 came at the hands of J. B.'s Thunder, who has been entered here for Al Stall Jr. J.B.’s Thunder won the 1 1/6-mile turf race at Saratoga by 1 3/4 lengths in his debut.
Another interesting entry is Brickyard Fast. The son of Sharp Humor broke his maiden by 10 lengths at Lone Star in June and after a third-place stakes effort on turf, won an optional claimer Sept. 15 at Remington Park. Joe Petalino has assigned Bryan McNeil to ride.
