The bloodstock holdings of Irving Cowan will be dispersed beginning with the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale, which will be held Oct. 25-27 in Lexington. Cowan and his late wife, Marjorie, bred and raced champion Hollywood Wildcat, who captured the 1993 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (gr. I), and her son, War Chant (by Danzig), who scored in the 2000 Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT).
Taylor Made Sales Agency will handle the dispersal.
“The chance to buy in to some of these families is unprecedented,” said Taylor Made’s Mark Taylor. “Take a look at the broodmare sires on these pages (in the sale catalogs): A.P. Indy, Danzig, Saint Ballado, Gone West, Rahy – they are all ranked among the best in the world. To say the least, we are honored to be able to offer these horses.”
Three yearlings, including a Hard Spun filly out of Hollywood Wildcat, will be offered at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale during phase one of the dispersal. Eight pregnant mares will be offered during phase two, which is scheduled for the Keeneland November breeding stock auction. They will include three-time grade I winner Society Selection (by Coronado's Quest), who is in foal to Medaglia d'Oro , and Danzig Wildcat (Danzig – Hollywood Wildcat), who is in foal to Smart Strike.
The remaining three phases of the dispersal will take place in 2011. Cowan is retaining Hollywood Wildcat.
