An Oasis Dream colt topped the second and final session during Part 1 of Arqana’s Deauville October yearling sale in France. The bay yearling brought €300,000 ($417,729) Oct. 19 from Marc-Antoine Berghgracht’s MAB Agency. Berghgracht was acting on behalf of Anthony Forde and Ahmed Mouknass.
Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, the colt is the second foal out of the winning Galileo mare Rose Melody, who finished second in the Prix Casimir Delamarre and third in the Prix Charles Laffitte in 2006 in France.
Rose Melody is a half sister to three stakes winners, including French group III winner Gold and Steel (by Shining Steel), who captured the 1995 American Derby (gr. IIT) and the 1996 editions of the San Francisco Mile Handicap (gr. IIT) and the Early Times Dixie Handicap (gr. IIT).
The results for Part 1’s second session included a gross of €3,899,000 ($5,429,080) for the 102 yearlings that sold. The average price was €38,225 ($53,226) and the median price was €30,000 ($41,773). The clearance rate was 82.3% for the 124 horses offered. Five yearlings were sold privately for €113,000 ($157,345).
During Part 1’s first and second sessions combined, the 200 horses that sold grossed €7,518,000 ($10,482,200) and averaged €37,590 ($52,341). The median was €28,000 ($39,988) and the clearance rate was 79.4% for the 252 yearlings offered. Eleven yearlings were sold privately for €182,500 ($254,118).
