Kiss the Kid, a multiple graded stakes winner from the female family of Horse of the Year Black Tie Affair, has been retired from racing and will stand in 2011 at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud near Ocala, Fla. His fee will be announced later.
Campaigned by Hardacre Farm, Kiss the Kid won or placed in 17 stakes on dirt, turf, or synthetic surfaces; recorded 10 triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures; and set a course record for 1 1/16 miles. At Gulfstream Park, he won the Appleton Stakes (gr. IIIT) and the Ft. Lauderdale Stakes on turf, and placed in such stakes as the Donn Handicap (gr. I). At Meadowlands, he captured the Cliff Hanger Stakes (gr. IIIT) and the Cozzene Stakes. During his career, he won or placed in 22 of 40 races and earned $820,873.
Seven-year-old Kiss the Kid enters stud as the only son of Lemon Drop Kid standing in Florida.
“Kiss the Kid is a throwback,” Brent Fernung said. “He was fast, honest, and sound for so long as a racehorse, and he ran on absolutely anything. He also has a sire's pedigree, and is part of a sire line that you can't get to in Florida.”
Jayeff B Stables is the breeder of Kentucky-bred Kiss the Kid, whose winning dam, Black Tie Kiss, is a half sister to Black Tie Affair, winner of the 1991 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I).
