Iffraaj Sets European Sire Record

Irish stallion sires record 36th 2-year-old winner from first crop.

Irish stallion Iffraaj set a European freshman sire record of 36 2-year-old winners when his son Dixlesio won Nov. 21 at Madrid in Spain, according to the Racing Post. Iffraaj bettered the former mark of 35 juvenile winners recorded by Invincible Spirit in 2006. The world record mark of 39 is held by United States stallions Chapel Royal and Wildcat Heir.

Iffraaj’s winners include Wootton Bassett, victorious in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere-Grand Criterium (Fr-I), and other French group winner Espirita.

Nine-year-old Iffraaj (Zafonic—Pastorale, by Nureyev) stands at Sheikh Mohammed’s Kildangan Stud in Ireland. His 2011 fee is 15,000 euros. Iffraaj stands the Southern Hemisphere season at Haunui Farm in New Zealand.
