Midships, who developed into a grade I winner following two modest seasons of racing in England, has been retired from racing to stand at Haras de Saint Arnoult in France, according to the Racing Post. His fee is €3,000.
A Kentucky-bred who raced as a homebred for Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms, Midships won or placed in seven of 10 races in England but finished unplaced in his sole stakes race overseas. He got off to a strong start upon his return to North American under the care of trainer Bobby Frankel with a close third to Court Vision and Cowboy Cal in the 2008 Hollywood Derby (gr. IT).
Midships was a leading older turf runner in 2009. He captured the Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap (gr. IT), the San Juan Capistrano Invitational Handicap (gr. IIT), and the San Luis Rey Handicap (gr. IIT). An injury prevent him from racing in 2010, and he was retired.
Five-year-old Midships (Mizzen Mast--Interim, by Sadler's Wells) was retired with five wins and six placings from 16 starts and earnings of $527,975.
