Large Field for Turfway Prevue

Newly turned 3-year-olds will go six furlongs on Polytrack Jan. 8 at Turfway Park.

Inhisglory, an impressive allowance winner last out at Turfway Park and two-for-three as a juvenile, will begin his 3-year-old campaign as one of the horses to beat in the $50,000 Turfway Prevue Stakes Jan. 8.

A field of 11 sophomores was entered to go six furlongs on Polytrack. Also among the betting choices should be Illinois-bred Thewayitusedtobe, a two-time winner who was stakes-placed last out, and Zorro Veloz, who has three wins in Peru but will be making his United States debut. Both horses will carry top weight of 122 pounds. Post time for the Prevue, which will be followed by the WEBN Stakes on Feb. 5, is scheduled for 5:02 p.m. EDT.
Owned and trained by Wayne Mogge, Inhisglory broke his maiden first out on the Presque Isle Downs Tapeta surface in June and rebounded from a poor allowance effort at Woodbine by winning an optional claimer Dec. 26 at Turfway. Rodney Prescott was aboard for the gelding’s latest victory and he will retain the mount on Saturday.
Inhisglory, by Pure Prize out of the Pulpit mare Belle Erzulie, was bred in Kentucky by Respite Farm.
Jose Gonzalez’s Thewayitusedtobe broke his maiden on the Arlington Park Polytrack in July, then scored by nearly 10 lengths at Canterbury Park in his next start. Most recently, he was a distant third in the Sun Power Stakes for Illinois-bred 3-year-olds Oct. 30 at Hawthorne Park, his home base. Trainer Rafael Flores has assigned Jozbin Santana to ride the Sunday Break gelding.
Zorro Veloz has won sprinting and routing on dirt in Peru and will make his first start in the U.S. for trainer Dante Zaneli Jr. The son of Take Me Out was bred in New York and sold at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2009 Eastern fall yearling sale before being shipped to Peru. He was a distant eighth in a group I event there in his last start in November. He’s had two works at the Ocala Training Center.
Trainer Eric Reed will also saddle a pair in the Prevue—Banjammer, a maiden winner at Turfway Dec. 3, and Tale of Lucknfame, third in an optional claimer at Turfway Dec. 26.
