Oaklawn Park will give a Zenyatta bobblehead doll to each paid admission to the Hot Springs, Ark., racetrack on the Martin Luther King holiday card of Monday, Jan. 17. That date also coincides with the evening announcement of the 2010 Eclipse Award winners, for which Zenyatta is a finalist for Horse of the Year.
Oaklawn, which had a Rachel Alexandra bobblehead doll giveaway in 2010, is honoring Zenyatta, the mare whose 19 wins in 20 starts included two victories in the track’s Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I).
Oaklawn Park begins its 2011 season Jan. 14. In addition to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day card, which will feature the $100,000 Smarty Jones Stakes, Oaklawn will host a special Monday card on President’s Day, Feb. 21, when the $250,000 Southwest Stakes (gr. III) will be run.
The Smarty Jones and Southwest are part of the track’s series for 3-year-olds, which has produced six Triple Crown race winners since 2004. The series also inlcudes the $300,000 Rebel Stakes (gr. I) March 19 and Arkansas Derby (gr. I) April 16.
