Irish stallion Invincible Spirit closed out 2010 with a record but it was a record for the number of 2-year-old winners in a single year for a stallion standing in either North America or Europe. He had 42 juvenile winners for the year. In a previous article, it had been reported that Invincible Spirit set a world record, but further research showed Sunday Silence, North America’s Horse of the Year in 1989, was represented by 51 juvenile winners in 2004. Sunday Silence stood at the Yoshida’s family’s Shadai Farms in Japan prior to his death in 2002.
Invincible Spirit did better the North American/European record of 39 juvenile winners set by Chapel Royal in 2008 and equaled by Wildcat Heir in 2009. Both Chapel Royal and Wildcat Heir, who stand in Florida, were first-crop sires at the time.
Invincible Spirit, who is by Green Desert out of the Kris mare Rafha, was Ireland’s champion older sprinter of 2001. He stands at the Irish National Stud in Co. Kildare.
