Don't Get Mad, sire of undefeated stakes winner and leading Louisiana-bred colt Populist Politics, will stand the upcoming breeding season at Elite Thoroughbreds near Folsom, La. His fee will be $2,500 stands and nurses.
Populist Politics, out of the Souvenir Copymare Cedar Summer, is among three of Don't Get Mad's first-crop 2-year-old winners with multiple wins in 2010. In all, Don’t Get Mad is represented by six winners.
After breaking his maiden Nov. 25 at the beginning of the Fair Grounds meet, Populist Politics showed he was one of the top juveniles in the state with a 13/4-length victory in the $109,825 Louisiana Futurity Stakes on New Year's Eve.
Don't Get Mad was a multiple graded stakes winner of $793,835 for B. Wayne Hughes. He was undefeated at two before becoming a top 3-year-old of his class. Don't Get Mad set a stakes record in the Northern Dancer Breeders’ Cup Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs, and also won the Indiana Derby (gr. II) and the one-turn mile Derby Trial Stakes. He placed in the San Vicente and San Felipe stakes (both gr. II) earlier in his 3-year-old campaign and finished fourth behind Giacomoin the Kentucky Derby (gr. I).
Don’t Get Mad began his stud career at Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm near Lexington. By Stephen Got Even, Don't Get Mad is out of the multiple stakes-producing mare Class On Class and hails from the direct family of the grade I-winning Student Council. His second crop of 2-year-olds will race in 2011.
“We're delighted to have Don't Get Mad join the Elite roster,” said Elite's Michelle Rodriquez. “He's already showing from his first crop that he can sire the kind of horses Louisiana breeders are looking for. Populist Politics looks to have a bright future, and hopefully he's just the tip of the iceberg for his sire.”
