Mitchell Named Executive Vice President

Eric Mitchell named to post; retains primary Editorial Director/Editor-in-Chief role

Marla Bickel, President and CEO of Blood-Horse Publications, has announced that Eric Mitchell has been appointed Executive Vice President of the company. In this capacity, Mitchell will be part of the executive team that will continue to guide the Thoroughbred industry’s leading multimedia company into the future. He will retain his primary role of Editorial Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Blood-Horse.

“As we developed new ways to service readers in print, on the web, and on mobile platforms, Eric has proven to be a creative and innovative leader,” stated Bickel. “Under Eric’s direction, has been redesigned and enhanced with new data-rich features for both the auctions market and racing industry, video race replays from most North American tracks were integrated into automated online results charts, and international stakes results were added. The Stallion Register Online also broadened its international scope through partnerships in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and South America.  In this expanded role, Eric will continue to develop every product to its full potential.”

Mitchell, 48, joined the The Blood-Horse in October 1999 as a senior staff writer covering business issues. Prior to that Mitchell was a reporter and columnist for Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal in Charlotte, N.C. He also spent more than eight years as a reporter and senior reporter for the Ocala Star-Banner, covering Florida’s horse industry among other subjects. While at The Blood-Horse, Mitchell has served as editor of The Blood-Horse MarketWatch financial newsletter, Research Director, and Executive Editor for Digital Media.
