MM Racehorse Sale Has 100% Clearance Rate

Irel brings the top ptice of Aust$170,000 ($168,507 in U.S. funds).

Irel, a 5-year-old Istidaad – God’s Angel gelding, brought the top price of Aust$170,000 ($168,507 in U.S. funds) Jan. 18 during the Magic Millions racehorse sale on Australia’s Gold Coast. Victorian horseman Eric Musgrove purchased the New Zealand-bred runner.

Consigned by the Williams family’s Hudson Conway Racing, Irel has won four of his 13 career races. He finished third in the Jan. 1 Bagot Handicap in Australia.

"I've been watching him closely since the Williamses bought him from New Zealand and he's been a very consistent performer," Musgrove said. "He ran well in the stakes race the other day and he looks like a good staying prospect.

"He might not be up to that top group I style level like the Williamses want, but he is a very handy stayer and down the track he could make a nice jumper."

The auction, which featured the unreserved dispersal of the Williams family’s horses, generated a gross of Aust$1,375,500 ($1,362,930) for the 55 lots that were sold. There was a 100% clearance rate.

The average price was Aust$25,009 ($24,789) and the median price was Aust$16,000 ($15,860).
