Jockey Eibar Coa Arrested in Domestic Case

Jockey reportedly involved in altercation with his wife.

Florida-based jockey Eibar Coa was jailed Monday, Jan. 31 on a domestic battery charge after his wife told police Coa punched her in the face, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The newspaper reported that Coa, 39, was being held without bond Monday evening at the Broward main jail.

His wife, Rebeca Coa, told police she and her husband had been at a club early Monday, and she decided to leave the club alone after her husband became intoxicated, according to an arrest report cited by the newspaper.  It goes on to state that Eibar Coa arrived home shortly after, and Rebeca Coa at some point locked herself in a bathroom.

The Sun-Sentinel reported that Eibar Coa broke into the bathroom, began yelling at his wife and then punched her, leaving her with a swollen left cheek and a busted lip, police said.

Rebeca Coa contacted police and reported the fight at about 2:30 a.m.

A native of Monagas, Venezuela, Coa relocated to the United States in 1993 and achieved a career  milestone in July 2010 when he rode his 4,000th winner. Coa has won riding titles at Monmouth Park, Calder, and Gulfstream Park.

On Sunday, Jan. 30, Coa finished fourth aboard 2-1 favorite Mucho Macho Man in the Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park.
