Gallant Guru Colt Shines at Karaka

He tops the opening session of the festival yearling sale, bringing NZ$60,000.

A Gallant Guru colt brought the top price of NZ$60,000 ($46,169 in U.S. funds) Feb. 6 during the first session of New Zealand Bloodstock’s festival  yearling sale at Karaka. The auction is part of the national yearling sales series.

Trainer Roger James purchased the colt from Brian Anderton’s White Robe Lodge. The yearling  is out of the unraced Star Way mare Blessed Thee.

New Zealand Bloodstock reported that the day’s results included a gross of NZ$1,640,000 ($1,261,960) for the 121 yearlings that were sold. The average price was NZ$13,554 ($10,430) and the median price was NZ$10,000 ($7,695). The clearance rate was 58%.
