Awesome Feather, the undefeated champion 2-year-old filly of 2010, might return to training before the end of the month, the Daily Racing Form reported Feb. 7. The daughter of Awesome of Course has been walking under tack at trainer Chad Brown’s barn at the Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida, according to the Form.
A tendon issue is delaying Awesome Feather’s preparation for the 2011 racing season. The problem was discovered after she won the Nov. 5 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) and two days later was sold to Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs operation for $2.3 million at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November select mixed auction.
“She’s been tack-walking for about a week,” Brown told the Form. “So far so good, and hopefully she’ll be able to go back to the track soon. Right now we’re taking little baby steps with her. If all goes well she could start jogging in about two weeks, and then we’ll just see what happens from there.”
Bred in Florida by Jacks or Better Farm, which raced her before she was sold to Stronach, Awesome Feather has won six races and has earned $1,495,746. The 3-year-old filly is out of the Gone West mare Precious Feather.
