Tampa Bay Downs Announces Purse Increase

Increase due to overall handle increase of 5% and a successful Festival Preview Day.

As a result of an overall handle increase of 5%, as well as a successful Festival Preview Day Presented by Lambholm South, Tampa Bay Downs announced there will be a purse increase for the remainder of the 2010-2011 racing season effective Friday, Feb. 18.

An average of $5,000 a day will be allotted to all claiming races run for a $12,500 claiming tag or less; this includes maiden, never won two, never won three, and since a date conditions. Wide open claiming races run for a $5,000 tag will now carry a purse of $10,500, and wide open $12,500 will now boast a purse of $16,000 (purses include money from the FOA.)

“We are pleased to be able to offer increased purse for our lower-level claiming races,” said Tampa Bay Downs vice president and general manager Peter Berube in a release. “We could have done a $500 per race across-the-board increase, but we felt at this time the increase would be better served in select classes of races.”
