Dogwood Stable's Hypnotist and jockey Jerry Bailey held off White Cat and Edgar Prado by a neck Sunday in winning the $75,000 Dave Feldman for 3-year-olds on the turf at Gulfstream.
The winning time for the 1 1/16-mile grass test was 1:42.75.
Hypnotist, fourth early after steadying into the first turn and never far off the moderate pace set by Millennium Storm and Sea Pleasure, split those rivals in the stretch and prevailed over a game White Cat. Private Gold, with Pat Day aboard, closed from well back in the 12-horse field to get third.
Strizzi, the 3-1 favorite, was eighth.
Hypnotist, a Kentucky-bred son of Favorite Trick, was an $80,000 Fasig-Tipton $80,000 yearling buy bred by John Frost. Trained by Barclay Tagg, the bay colt collected his second victory in five starts, his first against stakes opposition. With his $45,000 purse Sunday, he has a career earnings total of $83,210.
Sent off at 7-2, the winner paid $9.20, $5.20 and $3.80. White Cat returned $7.40 and $5. Private Gold's show price was $6.60. The $2 exacta was $68.80.
