California horse owner Pablo Suarez has been selected by the Thoroughbred Owners of California to fill its seat on the National Thoroughbred Racing Association board of directors, which met March 10.
Suarez takes the seat that had been occupied by Marsha Naify.
Suarez, founder and president of Nectar Pharmaceuticals Inc., a wholesale distributor of prescription medications, has been a member of the TOC board of directors since 2007. He serves as TOC secretary and chairman of the organization’s Medication and Integrity Committee.
Suarez is also a member of TOC committees that oversee advance deposit wagering and simulcasting, owner relations, and marketing.
Suarez bred and owns graded-stakes winner California Nectar, and campaigned 2006 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I) winner Thor's Echo; Super Freaky; and Sharp Lisa in partnerships. He also owns multiple stallions and mares.
“We are delighted to have Pablo join the NTRA board of directors,” NTRA president and chief executive officer Alex Waldrop said in a statement. “While we will miss Marsha greatly, Pablo’s passion and his experience in so many aspects of Thoroughbred racing will undoubtedly make him a very important and valued board member.”
