Kathmanblu May be Headed for FG Oaks

Garrett Gomez would pick up the mount on the Kentucky Oaks contender.

Kathmanblu, one of the favorites for the May 6 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), looks like she could make her next start in the Fair Grounds Oaks on March 26 (gr. II).

Jockey Garrett Gomez has committed to ride the daughter of Bluegrass Cat , who has won her last three starts. This would be his first time riding Kathmanblu. He has also lined up a mount on Mission Impazible  that same day.
“We are going to ride Mission Impazible in the New Orleans Handicap (gr. II) for Todd (Pletcher),” said Gomez’ agent, Ron Anderson. “And we’re going to ride Kathmanblu for Kenny McPeek in the (Fair Grounds Oaks).”
Kathmanblu, who runs for Five D Thoroughbreds and Wind River Stables, scored the Feb. 19 Rachel Alexandra Stakes (gr. III) for her fifth victory in eight lifetime starts. Her connections are also considering the Central Bank Ashland (gr. I) April 9 at Keeneland.
Gomez is still undecided who he will ride in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II) on March 26. He rode Wilkinson to a victory in the Jan. 22 Lecomte Stakes (gr. III).
In related news, Edgar Prado has picked up the mount on mount on Machen in the Louisiana Derby, where he will replace Jamie Theriot. Machen finished fourth in the Risen Star (gr. II) in his stakes debut.
