Stakes Winner/Producer Marimascus Dies

Stakes-winninng mare produced stakes winner Marco Bay.

Marimascus, a two-time stakes winner, died March 16 because of complications from old age. She was 27.

Marimascus (Bailjumper—Mariwitch, by Maribeau) did her best racing for owner Jay Shaw on turf. She won the Penn National Budweiser Breeders’ Cup Stakes and the Sabin Stakes, both on grass, and ran second in the Beaugay Handicap (gr. IIIT). She captured four of 19 races and earned $138,989.

As a broodmare, Marimascus produced 10 named foals, six of which are winners, including Shaw’s homebred stakes winner Marco Bay (by Copelan), who stands at stud in Florida.
