The Race Track Chaplaincy of America held its annual business meeting April 12 in Georgetown, Ky., that was followed by a banquet in tribute to retiring executive director Enrique Torres.
Torres served the racetrack ministry for 11 years, starting in 2000. In recognizing Torres, outgoing RTCA board president Dan Fick said, “We have seen this ministry double in its scope since he took office. Of course, the real impact is in souls saved, the full measure of which we cannot count.”
“I love RTCA, and I love each of you,” Torres said. “As we begin a new season, we know our work is not done, and that racetracks continue to need chaplains. We know that RTCA has a special purpose and an important mission to serve people.”
During the business meeting, the general assembly elected a new slate of officers for 2011: Gary Cartwright, president; John Shumaker, vice president; David Foley, treasurer; and Mike Bingaman, secretary. RTCA’s new leadership team also includes interim executive director Paul Ransdell, who has been employed with the national office since August 2009.
Preceding the business meeting was a chaplaincy school, during which some 50 chaplains representing 17 states assembled for training and professional networking from April 5-11.
