Gilbert Campbell's Watch Me Go, currently 21st on the list of Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) graded stakes earnings, will be shipped from South Florida to Churchill Downs early next week, according to trainer Kathleen O'Connell.
The upset winner of the March 12 Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III) has graded stakes earnings of $235,500, less than $7,000 behind Santiva , who is currently 20th.
Watch Me Go finished a disappointing sixth in his last start, the April 9 Illinois Derby (gr. III) at Hawthorne Race Course, but O'Connell is willing to dismiss his effort in that race and give him a chance in the May 7 race, if he gets in.
“He can't stand up on a wet track and it rained for three days, right up until Saturday morning, O’Connell said. “I'm going to throw out the Chicago race. I can't control the weather. He just doesn't like any kind of off-track.
“I believe my horse can get a mile and a quarter, and that's what separates the men from the boys.”
