The Factor Will Not Run in Derby

Bob Baffert feels the son of War Front is not ready for Derby due to recent surgery.

The Factor , who underwent a myectomy recently after displacing his palate in the Arkansas Derby (gr. I), is no longer under consideration for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands  (gr. I), said co-owner George Bolton.

“Bob (Baffert) feels he’s not ready for a race like the Derby, and to be honest, I’m relieved," he said. "We have big plans for this horse and it’s a long year.

“It’s too much too quick," Bolton later added. "We don’t want to run a horse that isn’t right. He’s basically miler pedigree that is good enough to go further. The right thing for The Factor is to wait and go either to Preakness (gr. I), Met Mile (gr. I), Woody Stephens (gr. II, or something like that.”

Bolton also co-owns Astrology  with Stonestreet Stables. The May 21 Preakness is a possibility for him as well.

The Factor, a son of War Front –Greyciousness, by Miswaki has captured the Rebel Stakes (gr. II) and San Vicente (gr. II) this year.
