Twinspired in Maintenance Work

Harlan's Holiday colt works at Trackside training facility.

In what trainer Mike Maker labeled a “maintenance work,” Twinspired  breezed five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 at the Churchill Downs' Trackside training center on April 30 in preparation for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

Maker said it was just a routine exercise regimen designed to keep the Harlan's Holiday colt on edge leading up to the May 7 Derby. The time was fifth best among 13 working that distance at the facility located about five miles from Churchill Downs.

Bred in Kentucky by John Jain, Lawrence Opas, and Frank Sinatra, Twinspired was purchased for $140,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale last May. He races for Daniel Johnson’s Alpha Stable, Harvey Diamond’s Skychai Racing, and David Koenig and partners’ Sand Dollar Stable.

The colt has two wins in eight starts and has earned $264,830. He earned his first stakes victory in the WEBN Stakes at Turfway Park and subsequently finished third in the Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes (gr. III) and second in Keeneland’s Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I).

He is No. 20 on the Derby graded earnings list with $197,500.
