May 1 Derby Update: Sloppy Track Workouts

Uncle Mo, Stay Thirsty, and Pants On Fire worked at Churchill Downs on May 1.

Despite an early morning thunderstorm that left the track at Churchill Downs sloppy, several contenders for the May 7 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) breezed May 1. The workouts (with additional details to follow later) were by:

Pants On Fire, four furlongs in :47 4/5, with fractional splits of :11 4/5 and :24 for the first half mile. Galloped out five furlongs in 1:01 2/5.

Stay Thirsty  (in company with Uncle Mo), five furlongs in 1:01 4/5, with splits of :13, :25 2/5, :37 2/5, and :49 2/5. Galloped out six furlongs in 1:14 2/5 and seven furlongs in 1:28 1/5.

Uncle Mo  (in company with Stay Thirsty), five furlongs in 1:01 3/5, with splits of :12 4/5, :25 2/5, :37 1/5, :49 1/5. Galloped out six furlongs in 1:14 1/5 and seven furlongs in 1:28.

Watch Me Go’s final Derby workout was rescheduled for Monday, May 2, because of the track conditions.
