MJC Announces Smartphone Application

The MJC announced a free mobile application for various smartphones.

The Maryland Jockey Club announced May 2 the release of a free mobile application for iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry smartphones.

The app was available for download on Apple April 28 and will provide instant, real-time access to the latest Preakness Stakes (gr. I) updates, including news releases, historical data, blogs, and wagering information. The app will be available on Android and BlackBerry later the week of May 1.

The app will provide facts and figures on the daily races during Pimlico Race Course’s spring meet, including handicapper Frank Carulli’s morning line and pre-race program notes as well as scratches, results (with payouts), and video replays.

“Social media has changed the landscape of how we communicate,” MJC president Tom Chuckas said in a statement. “We thought it was logical to launch this new platform around our biggest event but plan on utilizing it year-round.”

The 136th Preakness, middle leg of the Triple Crown, is scheduled for May 21.
