“Keeneland: A Thoroughbred Legacy “ has won an Independent Publisher Book Award for best sports book of 2010.
Conceived by author Fran Taylor and published by Eclipse Press for the Keeneland Association, the book chronicles the track’s first 75 years. A collection of well-known writers contributed chapters on topics ranging from the Keene family legacy and the track’s early years to Keeneland racing, sales, and community involvement. Hundreds of historic and contemporary photos illustrate the work.
More than 4,000 works were entered in the 15th annual “IPPY” awards.
“We are proud to be selected by Keeneland to collaborate on “Keeneland: A Thoroughbred Legacy.” Keeneland exemplifies Thoroughbred racing tradition here in the Bluegrass, and we are gratified to have a role in celebrating the history of this landmark operation,” said Marla Bickel, president and CEO of Blood-Horse Publications.
“Keeneland: A Thoroughbred Legacy “ is one of three books published by Eclipse Press to commemorate Keeneland’s 75th anniversary. “Keeneland Entertains,” a guide to entertaining that centers around the Keeneland experience and includes menus and recipes, received third place in the Independent Publisher’s regional non-fiction category.
Eclipse Press also published “Keeneland Then; Keeneland Now,” which tells the track’s history in photographs.
All three books were developed by Taylor, who served as project manager, creative supervisor, and author.
