So You Think Cruises in Tattersalls Gold Cup

Heavy favorite from Australia makes it two-for-two in Europe for Aidan O'Brien.

Heavily-favored So You Think improved his European record to two-for-two with an easy 4 1/2-length victory in the $297,179 Tattersalls Gold Cup (Ire-I) at the Curragh May 22.

So You Think, a 5-year-old son of High Chaparral, notched five group I victories in Australia before being transferred to trainer Aidan O’Brien. Named champion 3-year-old colt in his native country, So You Think had rattled off four straight group I wins before finishing third in the Emirates Melbourne Cup (Aus-I) last November.

Ryan Moore settled So You Think into second, content to sit a few lengths behind stablemate Windsor Palace through the early stages of the 10-furlong contest. Campanologist and Frankie Dettori tracked them in third, with Famous Name following in fourth.

With three furlongs left to run, So You Think swept past Windsor Palace to take the lead. Under a hand ride by Moore, So You Think continued to widened his lead as the horses entered the home straight.

Campanologist was put to a drive by Dettori and moved into second but never posed a serious threat to the winner, running on at one pace to the wire. Famous Name finished third, another 2 1/2 lengths further back.

Final time for the 10 furlongs was 2:14.08 over a good turf course.

O’Brien, who conditions So You Think for the partnership of Derrick Smith, Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, Dato Tan, and T. Yahaya, told reporters after the race: “He is an incredible horse. When you look at him in races you notice that the others are flat to the boards around him.”

Regarding future plans for his new star, O’Brien said, “The Prince of Wales’s (Eng-I) at Royal Ascot will be next. That was always the plan if everything went well today.”

So You Think now boasts a record of 10 wins from 14 starts. So You Think was bred in New Zealand by M.J. Moran and Piper Farm Ltd. He is out of the mare Triassic, a stakes-winning daughter of Tights.
