Jockey Curatolo Fractures Clavicle

Curatolo appears uninjured after fall at Belmont Park.

Apprentice jockey Ryan Curatolo fractured his clavicle when he fell from his mount, Vision of Jewels, in the fourth race Friday, June 24, at Belmont Park. The expected recovery period for this type of injury is approximately six weeks.

Curatolo was unseated when Vision of Jewels stumbled and fell during the stretch run of the 5 1/2-furlong maiden event for 2-year-old fillies. He was taken by ambulance to North Shore University Hospital, where X-rays revealed the fracture. Vision of Jewels was treated for several abrasions suffered in the fall, but otherwise appeared uninjured, said her trainer, Seth Benzel.

A native of France, the 19-year-old Curatolo picked up the first stakes win of his career June 18 at Belmont when he piloted Street Game to victory in the Hill Prince Stakes (gr. IIIT). Curatolo has 28 winners from 189 mounts since the Belmont spring/summer meet opened April 29, good for fifth place in the NYRA jockey standings through the conclusion of racing Friday.
