R Betty Graybull Retired

Daughter of Holy Bull won or placed in seven stakes.

R Betty Graybull, a four-time stakes winner, has been retired from racing. The 5-year-old Holy Bull mare fell after finishing fifth in the Sky Beauty Stakes at Belmont Park July 1.

“She's totally sound and fell from exhaustion,” said Bob Hutt, managing partner of Fantasy Lane Stable, which owns the mare with Frank Stronach.

R Betty Graybull came out of the race with inflammation in a hind ankle.

A stakes winner in three of her four years of racing, R Betty Graybull captured this year’s Ladies Handicap and the Leecoo Stakes, both at Aqueduct. During her career she won or placed in 14 of 23 starts and earned $436,117. She retired as Holy Bull’s second-leading money-earning distaffer.

Alan Seewald first trained R Betty Graybull. She was later handled by Seewald’s assistant Linda Ann White following Seewald’s death in April 2010. R Betty Graybull will be sent to Stronach’s Adena Springs near Paris, Ky. Adena Springs will manage her breeding career.

Bred in New York by Pegasus Farms, R Betty Graybull is out of the Evansville Slew mare Hey Darla.
