Atlantic City to Celebrate 65th Birthday

Atlantic City Race Course in New Jersey will be 65 years old July 22.

Atlantic City Race Course, which held its six-day Turf Festival of live racing earlier this year but is open year-round for full-card simulcasts, will pass yet another milestone July 22 when it celebrates its 65th anniversary.

The New Jersey racetrack opened July 22, 1946, and became one of the premier tracks in the country in the 1950s and 1960s as part of a circuit with Garden State Park and Monmouth Park, two other Jersey tracks.

Atlantic City reinvented itself in the mid-1970s by adding lights for night racing, and maintained that schedule through the late 1990s. The track was sold to Greenwood Racing, which reduced dates and now offers the six-day, all-turf meet.

Atlantic City officials said the birthday party will be celebrated July 22 in the racebook in the grandstand with free birthday cake and refreshments from 1-2 p.m. EDT.
