Penn National, Delaware Cancel Live Racing

The Pennsylvania track is the latest to cancel racing due to extreme heat.

Add Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course and Delaware Park to the list of tracks that have altered schedules due to the extreme heat.

Penn National canceled its Friday, July 22 evening program due to high temperatures in Grantville, Pa., which is forecast to be 101 degrees, with a heat index (combines temperature with humidity) of about 115. The track said it would resume live racing July 23 for a card that begins at 6 p.m. EDT, weather permitting.

Also, upon advice of veterinarians and after consulting with racing director John Mooney, a decision was made to cancel the live racing program at Delaware Park scheduled for Saturday, July 23 due to extreme temperatures. Delaware is scheduled to run again on Monday, July 25.

Colonial Downs in Virginia canceled its July 21 card and is scheduled to resume racing July 23, after its normal dark day of July 22. Canada’s Woodbine canceled its July 21 card, and Monmouth Park rescheduled its July 22 program for July 25.

Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack in New York and Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Pennsylvania also canceled live racing July 21 because of the heat.
