Portland Meadows Trainer Dies in Accident

Trainer Charlynn Taketa had saddled two winners from seven starters.

A 62-year-old trainer at Portland Meadows died Aug. 11 after being kicked by a horse during training hours.

According The Oregonian, Charlynn Taketa sustained severe head trauma after being kicked by a loose horse while she was leading one of her horses to a hot walker at the Oregon track around 7:15 a.m. PDT.

The newspaper reported that Taketa’s husband, Jerry Taketa, was working nearby when he saw his wife on the ground just after the accident.

“I’m glad she went quickly and died doing what she loved,” The Oregonian quoted Jerry Taketa.

According to Equibase, Charlynn Taketa had been licensed in 2010 and 2011, saddling two winners from seven starters, all at Portland Meadows.
