3,000th Win For New York Trainer Englehart

Chris Englehart has won last eight consecutive training titles at Finger Lakes.

Trainer Chris Englehart earned his 3,000th career win when Twinkle In His Eye scored a one length victory in the Aug. 19 fifth race at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack.

The 56-year-old from Canandaigua, N.Y.  began his career at Finger Lakes in 1973. He has won the training title at the Western New York track the last eight consecutive seasons and is on pace this year to be the top trainer for the 11th time. His 69 triumphs this season lead all other Finger Lakes conditioners.

Englehart has won a total of 11 Finger Lakes stakes, including four with Frattare, who in 1989 became the first locally based horse to ever win the Finger Lakes Breeders’ Cup (gr. III).

Englehart saddled 158 winning horses in 2009 to break his own single season record of 141 that he set in 2006.

“This has been too much hype for me,” said Englehart. “I’ll enjoy 3,001 more.”

Later on the night racing program, Englehart posted victories number 3,001 and 3,002 with Brock N Roll in the seventh race and Winged Warrior in the ninth to complete a hat trick.
