A half sister to 2010 Horse of the Year and three-time Eclipse Award winner Zenyatta will be offered at the 2011 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, Select Sales announced Sept. 2.
The weanling filly is from the second crop of Irish champion Henrythenavigator. She is managed by Dermot Farrington Bloodstock.
"It is the dream of a lifetime for any consignor to sell a filly like this," Select Sales partner Carrie Brogden said.
"We are extremely honored and excited to be given the opportunity to have such a jewel placed under our care," Select Sales general manager/partner Andrew Cary said. "This filly is the complete package, possessing one of the most desirable pedigrees on the planet, as a half sister to a living legend and one of the greatest racemares in the history of American racing."
The weanling filly is also a half sister to multiple grade I winner Balance (by Thunder Gulch), the dam of last year's Keeneland September yearling sale-topper Mr. Besilu (A.P. Indy), who sold for $4.2 million.
A daughter of Street Cry—Vertigineux, by Kris S., Zenyatta won 19 of 20 starts, earning $7,304,580. Her 13 grade I victories included the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) and the 2008 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (gr. I) in 2008. She is currently carrying her first foal by leading second-crop sire Bernardini.
Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo) was champion 3-year-old in Ireland in 2008, winning the stanjamesuk.com Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I), Boylesports Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I), St. James's Palace S. (Eng-I), and BGC Sussex S. (Eng-I), and finishing second in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I). He stands at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky.
Vertigineux has a 2-year-old Bernardini filly named Eblouissante in training with Zenyatta's trainer, John Shireffs, as well as a yearling filly by Henrythenavigator.
