Coolmore Buys Bernardini Colt for $875,000

Agent Demi O'Byrne signed the ticket for the colt consigned by Bluewater Sales.

A Bernardini  colt, who is a half brother to three stakes winners, was purchased by the Coolmore Stud camp for $875,000 from the Bluewater Sales consignment to highlight the first half of the first session of the Keeneland September yearling sale in Lexington Sept. 11.

Demi O’Byrne signed the ticket on the colt on behalf of the Coolmore interests. Consigned by Bluewater Sales, the colt is a half brother to grade I winner Sweet Symphony and stakes winners Patriotic Flame and Infinite Glory.

O’Byrne said he particularly liked the colt because he was a “good mover” and had a “lot of quality.” He said it was an asset that Sharon Brown, the colt’s second dam, produced Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old colt Holy Bull.

O’Byrne declined to say whether the colt would be race in the U.S. or sent overseas. Trainer Todd Pletcher was with O’Byrne and others in the Coolmore camp in the rear of the sale pavilion as the bidding took place.

Produced from the winning Distinctive Pro mare Brandy Rose, the colt was bred in Kentucky by Southern Equine Stables.

“He’s an absolute proper horse,” Bluewater’s Meg Levy told The Blood-Horse prior to the sale. “He’s good-sized and he’s got a big, slow walk that covers the ground. He’s got a beautiful, long neck and a great temperament. He has all the presence in the world. He looks like Muhammad Ali walking to the ring.”
