Three Ghost Ridge Stallions to Northview PA

Jump Start, E Dubai, and Smarty Jones will relocate for 2012 season.

Three stallions who previously stood at Ghost Ridge Farms, including Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Smarty Jones, will stand the 2012 Northern Hemisphere breeding season at Northview PA in Peach Bottom, Pa.

Joining Smarty Jones  at the Pennsylvania division of the Northview Stallion Station will be Jump Start  and E Dubai. The three sires, who are the three top-ranked Pennsylvania stallions based on 2011 progeny earnings, are currently standing during the Southern Hemisphere season and will continue to shuttle in the future.

According to an announcement, the stallions are being relocated because of a decision by Ghost Ridge owner Tarry Bratton to concentrate on expanding his broodmare band at his farm near Felton, Pa.

“Northview, which has been a powerhouse in the Mid-Atlantic region, will do a wonderful job with these stallions,” Bratton said in a statement.

“Northview is obviously very pleased to be the new home in Pennsylvania for Smarty Jones, E Dubai, and Jump Start,” Northview Stallion Station president Richard Golden said in a statement.

Jump Start has sired 24 stakes winners, including 2011 multiple grade II winner Prayer for Relief , and the earners of more than $19.3 million. The 12-year-old son of A.P. Indy-Steady Cat, by Storm Cat, also stood for $10,000 at Ghost Ridge in 2011.

E Dubai, a 13-year-old of Mr. Prospector—Words of War, by Lord At War, was relocated to Ghost Ridge in 2009 from Darley and stood for $10,000 in 2011. The leading sire in Pennsylvania in 2010 by earnings and winners, E Dubai’s offspring have earned $18.8 million to date. Included among his 25 stakes winners is Skysurfers, winner of the Godolphin Mile Sponsored by Etisalat (UAE-II) at Meydan Racecourse earlier this year.

Smarty Jones, the son of Elusive Quality—I’ll Get Along, by Smile, who was champion 3-year-old male of 2004 after winning the Derby and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) among other stakes, was relocated to Ghost Ridge in 2010 after beginning his career at Three Chimneys Farm. His 2011 fee was $10,000. The sire of eight stakes winners, Smarty Jones has been represented by progeny that have earned more than $8 million.
