Keeneland November Sale Has 3,919 Lots

The breeding stock auction will be held Nov. 7-17 in Lexington.

Keeneland has cataloged 3,919 lots for its November breeding stock sale. The number is down 16.5% from last year’s total of 4,695.

The auction will be held Nov. 7-17 in Lexington. The catalog can be viewed on Keeneland’s website,, beginning Oct. 4. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of October 17.

Featured in the sale will be the following:

• The dispersals of the estates of Edward P. (Ned) Evans’ Spring Hill Farm, consigned by Lane’s End, agent, and Prince Saud bin Khaled’s Palides Investments, consigned by Chanteclair Farm, agent.

• The sale of horses in training from such prominent stables as WinStar and Thoroughbred Legends, among others, Nov. 15.

• A weanling half sister by Henrythenavigator to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta and grade I winner Balance, consigned by Select Sales, agent.

• The sale of shares in the stallions Smart Strike, Lemon Drop Kid , Pleasantly Perfect, Posse, Aragorn, and Belong to Me at the end of the auction’s opening session.

“We have a quality November catalog with strong global appeal,” said Walt Robertson, Keeneland’s vice president of sales. “As always, we will offer a number of top-class race mares and a number of prized broodmares, as well as weanlings by some of the most sought-after sires in the world.”

Scheduled to be offered are 1,991 broodmares or broodmare prospects, 1,518 weanlings, 398 horses of racing age, five stallions, and seven stallion shares.

“The catalog has been reduced in number this year, which is a positive development,” Robertson said. “Breeders have done an excellent job of decreasing the number of noncommercial mares being bred, which concentrates the overall quality of the sale and strengthens the Thoroughbred industry as a whole.”

There are mares in the catalog in foal to such prominent sires as Awesome Again , Bernardini , Candy Ride , Cape Cross, Distorted Humor , Dynaformer, Giant's Causeway , Hard Spun, Indian Charlie, Malibu Moon , Medaglia d'Oro , Mineshaft , More Than Ready , Pulpit, Raven's Pass, Scat Daddy, Sea the Stars, Smart Strike, Speightstown , Street Cry, Tapit , Tiznow , Unbridled's Song, and War Front .

The weanlings cataloged are by such successful stallions as A.P. Indy, Arch, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Candy Ride, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Empire Maker , Giant’s Causeway, Hard Spun, Indian Charlie, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, Mineshaft, More Than Ready, Pulpit, Scat Daddy, Smart Strike, Speightstown, Street Cry, Tapit, Tiznow, Unbridled’s Song, and War Front.

Recent November Sale graduates include 2010 champion juvenile male and Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner Uncle Mo and grade I winner Hilda’s Passion, Drill, The Factor, Miss Match, Pool Play, and Summer Soiree.
