Benny the Bull to Stand at Vinery Kentucky

2008 Eclipse Award champion sprinter will move north from Vinery's Florida farm.

Eclipse champion sprinter Benny the Bull will stand the 2012 breeding season at Vinery Kentucky near Lexington, owner Greg James said in a statement Oct. 5. The multiple grade I winner previously stood at Vinery near Summerfield, Fla.

In 2008, Benny the Bull went undefeated in four starts. He won the Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes, then shipped to Dubai where he took the Golden Shaheen (UAE-I). He came back to win the grade II True North Handicap and the Smile Sprint Handicap (gr. II). His four consecutive wins at four tracks earned him the Eclipse Award as champion sprinter for that year.

In 2007, he won the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes (gr. I), the Iowa Sprint Handicap, and finished second in the Forego Stakes (gr. I). Overall, Benny the Bull won or placed in 14 of 20 starts and earned $2,353,430.

“Benny the Bull was a true champion with brilliant speed,” said James. “I have been a big supporter of him since his retirement and plan to continue with 20-plus mares. He has some really outstanding first foals on the ground this year so we’re excited about his potential stud career in Kentucky.”

A son of track record-setter and multiple graded stakes winner Lucky Lionel, Benny the Bull is out of stakes winner Comet Cat, by Birdonthewire. His third and fourth dams are both by champion sprinters.
