Havre de Grace, who was pre-entered in both the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) and Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (gr. I), will only be entered in the Classic when final entries are drawn Oct. 31.
Owner Rick Porter explained his decision Oct. 29 on his web site, rockportharbor.com
“Larry (Jones) and I talked over our options with both the Ladies Classic and the Classic and decided that we will only enter Grace in the Classic,” Porter wrote. “We considered entering both so that we could have another option should we draw the 1 hole or if weather conditions looked better for Friday.
"We decided that she’s earned her way into the Classic and we’d ultimately be dissatisfied if she ran in the Ladies Classic, regardless of the draw or weather conditions. She deserves her shot at writing racing history.
“She is in barn 43 at Churchill now and will breeze five-eighths Monday around 8 a.m.”
Havre de Grace, who along with Uncle Mo will be among the favorites for the $5 million Classic Nov. 5, vanned from Keeneland to Churchill without incident Oct. 29.
