Smart Strike's Fee Jumps to $85,000

Son of Mr. Prospector is going for his third leading sire title in five years.

Smart Strike, this year’s leading sire by progeny earnings, will stand in 2012 for $85,000, up from $75,000 in 2011. Smart Strike (Mr. Prospector—Classy ’n Smart, by Smarten) stands at William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Ky. He is represented this year by 12 stakes winners and the earners of more than $7.4 million.

Lane’s End stallions whose fees also have been increased are Candy Ride  (Ride the Rails—Candy Girl, by Candy Stripes) to $50,000 from $40,000; Mineshaft  (A.P. Indy—Prospectors Delite, by Mr. Prospector) to $35,000 from $25,000; City Zip (Carson City—Baby Zip, by Relaunch) to $20,000 from $15,000; and Pleasantly Perfect (Pleasant Colony—Regal State, by Affirmed) to $10,000 from $7,500.

Stallions whose fees have remained the same for 2012 are Curlin  (Smart Strike—Sherriff’s Deputy, by Deputy Minister) at $40,000; Lemon Drop Kid  (Kingmambo—Charming Lassie, by Seattle Slew) at $35,000; Quality Road  (Elusive Quality—Kobla, by Strawberry Road) at $35,000; English Channel  (Smart Strike—Belva, by Theatrical) at $25,000;  Discreetly Mine (Mineshaft—Pretty Discreet, by Private Account) at $15,000; Langfuhr  (Danzig—Sweet Briar Too, by Briartic) at $15,000; Shakespeare (Theatrical—Lady Shirl, by That’s a Nice) at $10,000; After Market (Storm Cat—Tranquility Lake, by Rahy) at $7,500; and Stephen Got Even (A.P. Indy—Immerse, by Cox's Ridge) at $7,500.

Stallions whose fees have been dropped are Rock Hard Ten (Kris S.—Tersa, by Mr, Prospector) to $20,000 from $25,000 and Belong to Me (Danzig—Belonging, by Exclusive Native) to $5,000 from $7.500.

Lane’s End will stand incoming stallion Twirling Candy  (Candy Ride—House of Danzing, by Chester House) for $15,000. Lane’s End will later announce a fee for incoming stallion Courageous Cat  (Storm Cat—Tranquility Lake, by Rahy), who is entered in the TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT) Nov. 5.
