Embur's Song Tries to Rebound in Bessarabian

Field of 10 fillies and mares was drawn for seven-furlong stakes at Woodbine Nov. 20.

Embur's Song, entering off a rare dull effort in her last start, will try to rebound when she leads a field of 10 in the $150,000 Bessarabian Stakes (Can-III) Nov. 20 at Woodbine.

The 124-pound high weight and 5-2 morning-line choice, Embur’s Song will face a field that includes last year’s Bessarabian winner, Ariana D, and Atlantic Hurricane, who won the listed Ontario Fashion Stakes in her last start. The seven-furlong Bessarabian is the feature on Woodbine’s 10-race Sunday card. Post time for the Polytrack event is set for 4:26 p.m. EST.

Fares Farm’s Embur’s Song finished 11th in the grade I Spinster Stakes at Keeneland Oct. 9, her first time off the board in her last six starts. The 4-year-old daughter of Unbridled's Song won four straight races earlier in the year, including the Hendrie and Ontario Matron (both Can-III) at Woodbine. She was runner-up in the Seaway Stakes (Can-III) two starts back Sept. 3.
Patrick Husbands will ride Embur’s Song for trainer Todd Pletcher. The bay filly is 6-2-1 from 12 career starts with earnings of $597,464.
Pletcher will also saddle Zermatt and Happy Week as uncoupled entries.
Ariana D won the Bessarabian by a neck last year when it was a listed race. The 5-year-old Rock Slide filly was second to Embur’s Song in both the Hendrie and Ontario Matron earlier this season, and was also runner-up by a neck in the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (gr. II). She notched her lone victory of the season Oct. 1 in the Avowal Stakes at Woodbine.
Omar Moreno will have the mount on Ariana D (3-1) for trainer Laurie Silvera. She is owned by Maple Lane Farm.
Ariana D finished third to Atlantic Hurricane in the Oct. 30 Ontario Fashion, which was at six furlongs. Atlantic Hurricane (7-2), a Florida-bred daughter of Halo's Image, has won five of her last six starts since being claimed for $40,000 in June by trainer Stuart Simon. One of those victories was in the Seaway, in which she beat Embur’s Song by three parts of a length.
