TVG to Cover Caribbean Racing Challenge

TVG will present coverage from the Caribbean Nations Racing Challenge.

TVG will present live, on-site, coverage of the co-featured races from the Dec. 3 inaugural Caribbean Nations Racing Challenge to be held at Santa Rosa Park in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago.

The event will feature 10 races and purses totaling $650,000. Competing will be horses bred in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, and the North American representing racing interests based in those countries and several other Caribbean nations.

Competing will be U.S.-based jockeys Edgar Prado, Corey Nakatani and Alan Garcia, Ireland’s Richard Hughes, Canadian-based Emile Ramsammy, Trinidad and Tobago’s all-time leading jockey, and several other riders from throughout the West Indies.

TVG will televise a pair of $100,000 events, the West Indian Bred Stayers Challenge Trophy and the Imported Stayers Challenge Trophy. Both are 1 1/8-miles races for horses 3 years old and up. The former, which is expected to draw a field of four Jamaican-breds and three horses bred in the host country, has a scheduled post time of 2:40 p.m. (all times EST), while the latter, a race featuring nine U.S.-bred horses, is slated for 3:25 p.m.

TVG’s 90-minute telecast begins at 2 p.m. Hosting will be Mike Joyce, with Paul LoDuca on hand to offer analysis.

“Thoroughbred racing has a proud and lengthy tradition in the Caribbean,” said Tony Allevato, TVG’s executive vice president, in a release. “We are excited to be able to showcase an event that will bring all the color and pageantry of that tradition to our viewers.”
