Boys At Tosconova Tallies Allowance Score

Top juvenile contender of 2010 wins his second in a row; stakes company next.

Boys At Tosconova , second to Uncle Mo in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I), won his second consecutive start, a ‘three other than’ optional/allowance feature Dec. 23 at a mile at Gulfstream Park.

Third past a :23.87 opening quarter, Boys At Tosconova took the lead approaching the turn and then held off a closing Where’s Sterling by a length while covering the distance in 1:35.62. Samantha Siegel campaigns Boys At Tosconova in the name of Jay Em Ess Stable.
“We’re happy with him,” said trainer Rick Dutrow. “I’m not sure that he’s shown that he’s the horse he was last year, but the way the race set up today and breaking from the one post, we really didn’t have much choice but to go to the front and run those fast fractions (half-mile in 45 4/5). If he’d drawn outside I would preferred to see him sit back off the pace, maybe third. I don’t want to bring him back in three weeks in the Hal’s Hope (gr. III). I want to give him at least five, six, seven weeks, and then pick out the right spot.”
