Red Roy, an unraced 3-year-old filly, turned in the fastest three-furlong work of the day Jan. 16 during the under tack show for the new horses of racing age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. winter mixed sale in Central Florida. The daughter of Van Nistelrooy covered the distance in :32.
Consigned by Paul Sharp, agent, Red Roy is a half sister to the winner Run Red Run (by Afternoon Deelites), who finished second once and third three times in added-money events in New York. Their winning dam, Red Melody (by Runaway Groom), was third in the 2000 Witches’ Brew Stakes at the Meadowlands.
Red Roy is Hip No. 253 in the winter mixed auction’s catalog.
The quickest worker at four furlongs was Hard as Steel, who turned in a time of :45. The unraced 3-year-old son of Hard Spun is cataloged as Hip No. 128.
Consigned by W.D. North Thoroughbreds, agent, Hard as Steel is out of the stakes-winning Afleet mare Swift Alliance. He is a half brother to Canadian grade III winner Sky Alliance (by Sky Classic) and stakes winners Classic Alliance (by Sky Classic) and Prime Ruler (by Orientate). Hard as Steel also is a half brother to grade I-placed Modification (by Vindication), who is a winner, and the winner Swiftly Classic (by Sky Classic), who is the dam of grade III winner Sky Mom (by Maria's Mon).
The winter mixed auction is scheduled for Jan. 17 and 18, with selling starting each day at 11 a.m. (EST). There will be a consignor preferred session on the opening day and that will be followed by the new horses of racing age section of the sale. An open session is scheduled for the second day.
