Milestone 3,000th Win for Jockey Simington

The 48-year-old Wisconsin native rode his first winner in 1984.

Louisiana-based jockey Don Simington recorded career win 3,000 Jan. 19 when Madam Dream won the second race at Delta Downs.

Trained by Charles Begnaud for owner Harry Begnaud, the Louisiana-bred mare won the 6 1/2-furlong,  $12,500 claiming race by 1 3/4 lengths and paid $20 to win.

The milestone for Simington, a 48-year-old native of Wisconsin who resides in Bossier City, La., came nearly a year after he broke nine ribs, broke his collarbone, and sustained a lacerated spleen and collapsed lung in a Feb. 10, 2011, spill at Delta Downs.

Simington won his first race Jan. 21, 1984 with Big Strong Man.
