Jockey Pedro Flores Injured at Golden Gate

Rider fractures collarbone when mount clips heels and falls in fifth race Jan. 22.

Jockey Pedro Flores sustained a fractured right collarbone and bruising to his lower back in a spill in the fifth race at Golden Gate Fields Jan. 22.

Flores went down when his mount in the $8,000 maiden claiming race, T's Mountain, clipped the heels of Haylescupcakebake at mid-stretch and fell.

The jockey was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland for x-rays. Jockey David Essman was also unseated when his mount, Come Next Monday, ran into T's Mountain. Essman was uninjured. Both horses quickly scrambled to their feet and ran off.

Just four of the eight horses that started the one-mile race on the Tapeta main track managed to finish. Two horses, Durjaya and Silvery Seas, were eased after altering course to avoid the fallen T's Mountain. Haylescupcakebake maintained his feet in the mishap and finished third.
