World Cup Nominees Include American Champions

World's richest race card will take place March 31 at Meydan Racecourse.

Four Eclipse Award winners are among the international cast of horses nominated to the $27.25 million Dubai World Cup card at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday, March 31.

Among the nominees to the featured $10 million World Cup (UAE-I) are Animal Kingdom , the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner and champion 3-year-old male, champion older male Acclamation, and champion 3-year-old filly Royal Delta.

Musical Romance, the 2011 champion female sprinter, was nominated to the six-furlong (1,200 meters) Golden Shaheen (UAE-I), as was Caleb's Posse , winner of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I).

Also nominated to the World Cup was Game On Dude, the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) runner-up who was nominated to three other World Cup card races—the Sheema Classic (UAE-I), Duty Free (UAE-I), and Godolphin Mile (UAE-II).

Another classic winner, Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Shackleford , is also nominated to the Gold Cup that will contested at 1 1/4 miles over the all-weather surface.

Other Breeders’ World Championships winners nominated to the World Cup are Turf Sprint (gr. IIT) winner Regally Ready and Secret Circle , the Sentient Jet Juvenile Sprint winner, both nominated to the Al Quoz Sprint (UAE-I).

Acclamation was also nominated to the Sheema Classic, as was Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT) winner St Nicholas Abbey. Animal Kingdom was also nominated to the Duty Free (UAE-I), at 1 1/8 miles on turf.

New to the World Cup card this year is the Dubai Gold Cup (UAE-III), a 3,200-meter (two-mile) turf stakes that increased total purses for the world’s richest racing day to $27.25 million.
